Lochbuie Intermediate Academy now serves students in grades four through eight. Our students move through one school community with consistent expectations, strong relationships, and a clear focus on academic and personal growth. This 4–8 model helps students build independence, confidence, and the skills they need for high school and beyond.
Strong instruction drives each day. Students engage in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies through lessons centered on clear learning targets and purposeful tasks. Students read closely, write regularly, solve complex problems, explain their thinking, and learn from one another. Teachers create classrooms where students discuss ideas, collaborate with peers, and take greater ownership of their learning.
Our instructional work continues through our partnership with Gradient as the organization transitions to Transcend. Teachers plan around clear topics, tasks, targets, and texts while using the Read, Think, Talk, Write cycle across content areas. This approach gives students frequent opportunities to think critically, communicate their ideas, support their reasoning, and apply their learning.
Students also have opportunities to explore interests outside the core classroom. Elective and specials offerings include art, painting, ceramics, music, band, keyboarding, ukulele, STEM, robotics, Physical Education, health, and Spanish. These experiences give students more ways to develop creativity, leadership, confidence, and new skills.
Athletics give students another way to connect with their school community. Fall sports include football, boys soccer, and cross country. Winter sports include boys basketball, girls basketball, and wrestling. Spring sports include track and girls soccer. Through competition, students learn teamwork, commitment, discipline, and what it means to represent the Lions.
Clubs and activities extend those opportunities beyond the regular school day. Students participate in programs such as choir, robotics, National Junior Honor Society, and other activities offered throughout the year. These experiences help students develop leadership, responsibility, and a stronger connection to school.
