Finishing Strong

Families,

Thanksgiving Break is here. When we return, we hit the final three weeks of the semester. Those three weeks matter. Students have built routines, grown in confidence, and learned what it takes to stay focused. Now the goal is to finish stronger than we started.
Here is how you can help your student return ready to go.
• Keep sleep and structure steady during break.
• Encourage your student to read a little every day.
• Talk with your student about one goal they want to finish before winter break.
• Make sure Chromebooks are charged and ready on day one.
• Send your student back with a positive mindset and a strong morning routine.
At school we will reset expectations, reinforce PRIDE, and keep classrooms focused from bell to bell. Students rise when home and school send the same message.
We appreciate your partnership. Enjoy the break. Then let’s return ready to finish the semester with purpose and pride.

Best regards,
Manuel Montano
Principal, Lochbuie Intermediate Academy

Importance of Attendance

Attendance drives achievement. When students miss class, they miss instruction. Skills in reading, writing, and math slip fast. Every day out of class is a lost chance to practice and get feedback.
Our November attendance rate finished at 93 percent. This shows progress across our building. Your effort matters. The next step is to finish strong as we head into the final stretch of the semester.
Students who attend regularly are more likely to
• Score higher on state tests.
• Build strong learning habits.
• Stay on track for middle school and high school.
• Graduate on time.
Missing ten percent of the school year means chronic absence. That is about two days each month. Students who miss that much fall behind in reading and math by third grade. By fourth and fifth grade the gap grows and is harder to close. In middle school students who miss class struggle with engagement and connection.
Being present builds routine and responsibility. Attendance sets the foundation for success.
Lochbuie Intermediate Academy hours are 7:55 AM to 3:00 PM. Supervision and breakfast begin at 7:30 AM. Please help your student arrive on time and ready to learn. Ten minutes late each day becomes more than 30 hours of lost learning over the year. Your support helps your student finish stronger than they started.
